Rancho Cucamonga Weapon Charge Lawyer Who Tests Every Search
A weapon conviction can mean jail or prison, a firearm ban of ten years or life, and a lost concealed-carry license. It can also threaten a security, military or law-enforcement career and a noncitizen’s immigration status. Kolacia Law handles criminal cases only.
California law controls who may possess a weapon, which weapons are lawful, and how and where they may be carried. Many offenses are wobblers, chargeable as misdemeanors or felonies, and lawful owners are often charged over transport, loading or concealment rules. A firearm allegation can add years to another felony.
Rancho Cucamonga has contracted with the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department since 1977, and weapon arrests often follow a traffic stop, probation search or search warrant. Arrestees are typically booked at West Valley Detention Center, and area felony and misdemeanor cases are generally heard at the Rancho Cucamonga courthouse and prosecuted by the San Bernardino County District Attorney.

Felony terms are often served in county jail.

- Negligent Discharge of a Firearm: A wobbler, up to three years as a felony.
- Firearm in a School Zone: Two, three or five years on K-12 grounds; often a wobbler within 1,000 feet.
- Firearm Enhancements: One to 20 added years, or 25 to life if a discharge causes great bodily injury or death, and often a strike.

Unlawful transfers and criminal storage are also defended; assault with a deadly weapon or firearm, domestic violence and firearm-related drug charges fall under separate laws.
