Rancho Cucamonga Felony Defense Lawyer: How Charges Get Filed
A felony conviction can mean custody in county jail or state prison, a lifetime firearm ban, immigration consequences, and a record that surfaces in employment, housing, and licensing checks. Kolacia Law practices criminal defense exclusively.
In California, a felony is a crime punishable by more than a year of incarceration, often 16 months, two years, or three years. Many felonies are “wobblers” that prosecutors may file as misdemeanors. Serious and violent felonies count as strikes, which can double the sentence for a future felony.
Rancho Cucamonga is policed by San Bernardino County Sheriff’s deputies, and felony arrests are typically booked at West Valley Detention Center. Cases from Rancho Cucamonga, Alta Loma, Etiwanda, Upland, Ontario, Montclair, Chino and Chino Hills are prosecuted by the San Bernardino County District Attorney’s Office at the Rancho Cucamonga Courthouse on Haven Avenue, where the preliminary hearing is often the first test of the evidence.
